Lover fined Dh1,000 for slashing veins in RAK restaurant

A court in Ras Al Khaimah fined an Asian man Dh1,000 for endangering his life by slashing his wrist vein when he saw his girl-friend with another man at a restaurant in the northern emirate, the press reported on Tuesday.

The unidentified young man was going into the restaurant when he stopped at the door and stared in disbelief at one table, where he saw his sweetheart with another man.

Infuriated, he went straight to the club counter, picked an empty bottle and smashed it on the floor. He then used a broken part to slash his vein.

Shocked restaurant employees phoned the police, who called an ambulance to the scene. The man was admitted to hospital for treatment before he was sent to court.

“During hearings on Monday, the judge decided to fine the man Dh1,000 on charges of endangering his life,” Alkhaleej Arabic language daily said.

The paper did not identify the woman and the other man nor did it say whether that girl was in love with the vein slasher.
