A Filipina housemaid is on trial in Abu Dhabi on charges of strangling her new born baby with a piece of her underwear before putting the body in a small plastic bag and hiding it in her wardrobe, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

After committing the murder, the maid went to hospital for treatment and told doctors she had just delivered a dead baby and that she dumped it in the bin.

When the body was not found, her employer searched her room and found the plastic bag inside her wardrobe.

The maid told police that she did not intend to kill the baby and that she was only cleaning his body with a piece of her underwear.

But her claims were rebuffed by the coroner, who said that a piece of cloth was wrapped tightly around the baby’s neck and that he had to use a scissors to cut it loose. She was then arrested and sent to court.

The maid told the judge that she became pregnant through an illicit affair with her boy friend in the Philippines.

Alkhaleej newspaper said her lawyer argued that it was an accidental killing, adding that the court would issue its sentence on June 12.
