Maid was raped before hanging: RAK lawyer

A housemaid believed killed by her Emirati employer in Ras Al Khaimah was raped by another man before her death, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Emirat Alyoum said the lawyer for the 52-year-old defendant told court on Wednesday that a testimony by a police officer about a possible murder was flawed on the grounds the officer had not been to the crime scene.

“The maid was raped and hanged by a different man at my client’s house while he and the other family members were asleep,” the lawyer said.

He presented a medical report showing traces of semen from another man were found on the victim just after she was killed in 2012.

He said police and the prosecutor considered two scenarios for the crime including that the defendant hit the maid on her head with a sharp object and hanged her after thinking she was dead in order to mislead police into believing she committed a suicide.

“The other scenario was that the maid decided to hang herself after she was raped…the problem is that the prosecution ruled out the second scenario although the first one lacks evidence,” the lawyer aid.
