'Make-you-rich' email swindlers held in UAQ

Umm Al Quwain Police smashed an expatriate ring that had swindled large sums of money from some residents believing they would be rewarded with wealth.

The ring’s operations involved sending e-mails to victims telling them that they have a large sum of money and are stranded at a UAE airport because they are unable to pay fees to get the sum into the country.

The fraudsters were offering a high percentage of what they have and this enticed many victims to fall in the trap and send money to them.

“Once the victims sent the requested money, the ring members just vanish and could no longer be accessed by e-mail. Many persons fell in this trap because they were greedy,” CID director Lt Colonel Humaid Ojail said.
