Man accused of trying to steal copper cables

A Pakistani along with some illegal residents allegedly attempted to steal copper cables of an electric transformer belonging to DEWA, valued at about Dh152,000.

Mohammed Sadiq, 42, Pakistani, foreman, was checking Al Warqa area in a DEWA vehicle on May 13 at around 8.30pm.

Sadiq testified: “I saw that the door of the station was open. I immediately called the police and got closer to the station. I saw two strangers leave the room. When they saw me they fled.  I ran behind one of them but could not catch him.  Police arrived and they caught one of them.”

ASM, 30, confessed to breaking the door of the station and attempting to steal copper cables.
The Prosecution noted that the accused had a criminal record and had been deported from the country via a court order but he re-entered the country illegally via the Oman border.

The court will reconvene on July 19.
