Man chokes compatriot, packs body in carton, leaves it on street

Finger prints and camera footage led to the identification  of the killer of an Indian man whose body was found in abandoned carton on the street.

Police received information on May 23, about a body found in a big carton around Fareej Al Marrar area.

A watchman noticed the large carton at around 10pm in front of the building.

“I thought that it belongs to someone who would come and pick it up, but as I saw the carton was still in its place the next morning and nobody had taken it, I went to check it. As it was closed with a tape I opened the tape. I was shocked to see a dead man in the cartoon. I immediately reported the matter to the police,” said the watchman.
Police rushed to the scene and could only make out that the dead man was an Indian since he was not carrying any document.

Forensic reports concluded the victim was suffocated or hanged to death. Within hours, police investigation led to the identification of the victim.

Police trapped the killer, NS, on the same day at 10pm and arrested him in Gold Souq. When confronted by the police, NS denied any form of connection with the death of the victim.

Investigators were supplied with the identities of the people whose finger prints were removed from the carton and so each of GA, MA, MJ and KK were questioned.

GH admitted that he has carried the carton with another person upon the request of an Indian man.“On May 22, while I was in Naif area I was stopped by an Indian who was wearing a blue top and jeans and asked me to carry the carton from near his flat and to transport it to Eyal Nasser area. I accepted to do that for Dh50. He claimed that he has some personal stuff in the carton. Accompanied with another person, I transported the cartoon on a trolley for about 900m and left it in Fareej Al Marrar near a shop upon his request. He paid me Dh50,” testified the porter.

Police also arrested MA and MJ who gave the same description of the man who had asked them to transport the carton from near a shop to a route in the same area.

“We were stopped by an Indian who said that he wants us to carry his carton, which he claimed contain glass stuff among others to a route. We agreed with to do that for Dh25.

"A third person, MZ, came along and helped us carry the carton to a trolley. As I reached the place, he paid me Dh25,” testified MA assuring that they can identify the man who asked them to do the service. They all denied knowing that the carton contained a body."

After checking the route the porters had followed, police found a camera of a hotel on the same route. Reviewing the footage, police identified the Indian who had asked for the service and it was nobody else but NS.

Confronted with the facts police had collected, NS immediately admitted to the crime.“I knew the victim who was from the same place as me. I had lent him a total of Dh8,500 in three installments and whenever I asked him to pay me back he would say that he cannot as he does not have money. On May 22, I received a call from him saying that he wants to come to my place to discuss the payment of the amount. Ten minutes later he arrived at the flat. We started fighting verbally and then the argument turned physical. He pushed me to the floor and I grabbed a rope lying next to me. I pushed him to the floor, sat on his chest and pulled the rope around his neck and killed him.

"Then I started thinking how to get rid of the body. I went down and bought a big box for Dh12 and took it to the flat. I put the dead body into the carton and closed it with a tape after taking his mobile and wallet. I threw the rope and the wallet and mobile in a nearby garbage bin and then pushed the carton out of the flat.I went down and searched for people to carry the box. I assigned two men to transport it to Eyal Nasser area and paid them for that. Then I assigned two other men to transport the carton to Fareej Al Marrar area where I left it,” admitted NS before investigators.

NS is being prosecuted for premeditated murder and the Court will reconvene on October 23.
