A criminal court in Ajman sentenced a Pakistani man to life in jail for dealing in drugs although the man claimed he had found the stuff in the garbage bin.
Another Pakistani defendant was given one year in prison and ordered deported from the UAE for taking drugs. The court dismissed his claims that he had mistaken the drugs for sleeping pills given to him by a friend.
The first defendant said he was passing near a garbage bin in the northern emirate when he spotted the marijuana pack.
“He told court that he decided to take it home and sell some of it for Dh150…he then kept the rest in cigarette packets,” Emirat Alyoum daily said.
The court also sentenced him to four years in prison for taking drugs and ordered his deportation from the UAE.
