An Indian, who claimed to be in-charge of an unregistered society of actors, was found possessing forged Indian currency notes which he said were used for acting purpose and not for buying or selling.

The 60-year-old TN, who is also a businessman, is being prosecuted for smuggling currency and possessing forged currency notes.

Following a tip-off about TN receiving money transfer into his account, police raided his accommodation on June 25, 2013. When confronted him with the money transfer, TN denied any knowledge of the transfer.

Policemen searched his accommodation and confiscated two bundles of forged Indian currency.

When again questioned about the fake notes found in his accommodation, TN claimed that he had asked someone to bring him forged notes that he needed for acting purposes because he is in-charge of an unlicenced acting group.

TN claimed that he has artificial jewellery also for acting purpose but police did not find any in his possession.

The prosecution noted that the notes were neatly forged which an ordinary person cannot figure out.

The court will reconvene on October 2.
