Man drowns off Dubai's coast during Eid

A 21-year-old Asian man drowned off Dubai’s coast after he went into the water in a restricted beach area, according to police.

Rescuers combed a large part of that area for several hours before the man’s body was washed ashore by sea currents, they said.

A police spokesman said the unnamed man had come with friends and decided to go into the water despite the presence of red flags showing swimming in that area is banned. He said the man was pushed by strong currents more than 1.5 km into the sea before he disappeared, prompting his friends to call for help.

Later in the day, two other swimmers were rescued by police divers at Jumeirah beach, police said, adding that they went to the water at a time when red flags were put up.
