Man gets 3-month jail for injuring compatriot

A Bangladeshi, who assaulted a co-worker in a hotel with a hammer and caused him 20 per cent permanent hearing disability, on Thursday received three-month jail by the Dubai Criminal Court.

SAI, 32, who holds a tailor’s visa but works in a hotel, took a hammer and hit his colleague and compatriot Jahangeer Alam, 30, cleaner, after a work related dispute on his head on August 28.

The victim testified that at around 9.30pm while he was on duty in Al Tawoos Hotel in Al Nakheel area. The accused hit him with a hammer in his head in the presence of other two workers after a dispute on work related matters. “I sustained fraction in the skull, and the ear’s bone.”

The other two co-workers Ghulam Mohammed Shehabuddin 50, messenger, and Abdullah Mohammed Ali, 28, worker, testified that the accused had beaten the victim with a hammer which caused him bleeding after a dispute. The victim did not abuse nor assaulted SAI, they testified.

SAI was also accused of absconding his employer and overstaying his visa for which he will appear before another court.
