Man gropes woman in building lift, jailed

A young Egyptian worker, who groped a woman in a building lift, was jailed for three months by the Dubai Courts on Thursday.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance also ordered AE, 27, to be deported after serving his jail term.

The incident happened on March 16, at around 8.30pm, when FL, 23, was headed towards her building in the Chinese Cluster of the International City.

“When I entered into my building’s lift, an Arab also entered the lift and stood behind me. When the lift reached 3rd floor, I stepped out of the lift. At this moment, the man groped my lower back. I tried to grab him, but he pushed me and ran away,” she testified in her report.

The woman informed Dubai Police which reviewed the footage of the building’s CCTV cameras.

Recording showed that the man groped the woman while she was going out of the lift. He could also be seen standing behind her in the lift.  Cameras also captured the assaulter in the building’s corridor.

Police arrested the accused and the victim recognised him when shown to her via identification parade.

The accused denied groping the woman and claimed that he was just trying to hold her hand.
