A man allegedly tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of fast moving vehicles on Thursday night in Sharjah.

However, the man only ended up in police custody following an hour-long midnight drama on the Al Marija Mina Road.

“Following an argument over a family matter he suddenly jumped onto the road and lay down there.

A  fast moving car stopped hardly a metre away from the man. When the passengers in the vehicle came out and shouted at the man for his strange behavior, he tried to run away from the scene, but some youth chased him.

“Ultimately he was overpowered and held by the youth,” said an eye-witness to the late-night suicide drama.

The Sharjah Police were informed about the incident and a police team arrived on the scene within 15 minutes.

The eye-witness claimed that when the Sharjah police reached the scene the victim stubbornly remained on the floor, as if unconscious.

An ambulance was then called in. The Sharjah Police finally took him into custody.
