A salesman in a big electronics company, which has a partnership with Etisalat to promote its services, allegedly stole 40 mobile phones and made calls of Dh145,788, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The accused IT, 23, could steal the mobile phones by filling applications for Etisalat service using documents of other people.

His friend MF, who works for a finance company, supplied him with passport and ID card photocopies that were kept in his custody as part of his work.

IT attached these documents with Etisalat applications and signed in the applicants’ field by forging the signature of the person that was on the back side of the ID card photocopy.

He activated the SIM cards and used Etisalat’s services costing Dh145,788 in total.

Etisalat discovered the fraud and it was found out that IT was the one who activated and stole its services.

IT claimed that he had handed over the mobile phones to MF who later sold them through a website.

He claimed that they were dividing the proceeds from selling the mobile phones and that he received from MF Dh21,000 which he sent home .

The court will reconvene on June 16.
