A man is on trial in Dubai for trying to kiss a woman for winning a Dh50 bet with a friend. (Supplied)
A Pakistani worker denied attempting to rob a pedestrian and claimed that he had only tried to kiss her following a bet with a friend, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
According to the records, on May 26, at around midnight, the accused was walking with his friend on the street under the influence of alcohol.
“We saw a Chinese woman while we were walking behind a supermarket in Hamriya. My friend bet me, telling me that if I kissed her, he will pay me Dh50. I rushed to the woman, greeted her and asked her for a kiss. When the woman refused, I groped her face and tried to kiss her. When she shouted at me, I ran away,” he told investigators.
The victim reported the incident to the police, saying that a man had dragged her by the neck and tried to snatch her handbag.
“The attacker ran away when I started screaming and my hand bag fell to the ground,” she said.
Police searched the area and found a wallet that had QA’s ID card.
Police arrested QA, 24, and the victim recognised him when shown to her via identification parade.
The court will give its verdict on January 6.
