A clerk who intervened in a brawl was stabbed in the belly, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

SAM, 24, Indian, salesman, is accused by the prosecution of premeditated murder attempt for stabbing Akram Al Zain.

The 37-year-old victim testified that on September 30, 2011 while he was near his accommodation he saw the accused and his Bangladeshi friends fighting.

“I went to them and asked them to end the fight and leave the place. One of the men asked me not to intervene but I did not listen to him and continued advising them not to fight. All of a sudden, one of those involved in the brawl stabbed me with a knife that was in his hand. I shouted for help and my friends came and called the police,” he testified.

The victim was rushed to Al Baraha Hospital and all those involved in the fight were arrested. Police could not get the testimony of the victim immediately because of his condition. However, he later recognised the man who stabbed him during an identification parade.

The hospital reported that the victim had suffered a stab that caused a 5cm wound by a sharp tool like a knife. The wound was deep and caused cuts in the victim’s intestine and internal bleeding.

The court adjourned the case to June 21.
