Nissan Motor Company replaced a 2012 model Nissan Patrol bought by an Emirati after he found a defect in the vehicle.

Failing to convince the local dealers, the Emirati filed a complaint with the Dubai Department of Economic Development, which negotiated with the regional office and sorted out the matter.

This is the first time in the UAE when a car has been replaced after a consumer complained to the government body with proof of a defect, according to an 'Emarat Al Youm' report.

The Emirati who bought the car and found defects demanded the local dealers to have it replaced but in vain. Then he filed a complaint with the commercial control sector and consumer protection in the Dubai Department of Economic Development. The Emirati plaintiff said in his complaint that “he had bought a Nissan Patrol, 2012 model, and found a gearbox problem. He added that when he asked the company to repair the defect or change the car, the company rejected his plea, saying the car is perfect and has no complaints.

Omar Bushehab, Executive Director, Commercial Control Sector, told 'Emarat Al Youm': "The car is worth Dh304,000 and the problem is due to a manufacturing defect."

He added the department was successful after negotiations between the local agent and the regional office of the company and that they agreed to replace the car. This is the first time in the UAE when a car has been replaced after a consumer complained to the government body with proof of a defect, said Bushehab.

Bushehab explained the car's gear box had a defect and the gear could not be moved from the fourth to the fifth. This made it dangerous to drive the vehicle. Also the defect led to more fuel consumption.

He said the company officials first tried opening the gearbox to repair it, however they failed in opening the box and so replaced the vehicle.
