A Moroccan woman who was not returned her passport even after making Dh45,000 out of prostitution for a man who forced her into the vice trade, helped the police to uncover a vice ring.

25-year-old NH, who arrived in Dubai on a visit visa on January 16 after getting a housemaid’s job through a woman called Fawziya in Morocco.

“Fawziya asked me to pay her 5,000 Moroccan dirhams for arranging me the job and told me that I have to pay my sponsor double the amount after I arrive in the UAE. I am illiterate and I don’t know doing anything except housework. I agreed and handed her over my passport and pictures.

“Two weeks later she told me that the visa and the air ticket are ready.MS, Syrian, who introduced himself to me as ‘Anas’ received me at Dubai Airport , took me in his car and dropped me in a flat where I met the accused ‘K’ and an Ethiopian maid called Noor.

“MS asked me to take a shower and rest before he took me to my employer. Before leaving the flat he made me put my thumb impression on a payment receipt, claiming that I should do that to protect the financial rights of my sponsor to whom I should pay the cost of the visa.

“A couple of hours later MS came back and asked me to change my dress as he will be taking me to where I will be working. I changed my dress but he did not like what I was wearing, saying my dress is not suitable for the work and asked ‘K’ to give me a dress.

“As the dress she gave me and asked me to wear was very much revealing, I asked them about the nature of the work. Then they told me it is prostitution. I refused that and argued with them that if I wanted to do that I could have done it in my country.

“MS threatened me with the receipt that I signed, saying that he will send me to prison if I did not obey and saying that I should pay Dh45,000 as expenses for bringing me to the UAE. I did not have any other option and so I submitted to his threat.

“He used to drop me at different hotels in his car or by taxi to his clients. On February 19, another Moroccan arrived in the country and worked in prostitution for two months for MS. After making the amount of money he wanted, I asked him to give me my passport, but he refused saying that I should continue working in prostitution as I have to pay more.

“At this moment I flew into a rage, opened the flat’s door and started screaming and shouting and knocking at neighbours’ doors. MS decided to run away with the other women and took with him his Samsonite bag.

“When he rushed towards the lift, I managed to get in with him and when the lift reached the ground floor, I tried to pull the bag away from him. The watchman saw us and he pushed both of us into a room and locked the door. MS called the building’s guard who came and opened the door, allowing MS to run away. However before he left the room, I snatched the bag from his hand and headed to the police station and reported the crime,” she testified.

Police found some notebooks where MS recorded money made from the vice trade, passport photocopies and pictures of naked women in addition to a photocopy of a forged visa.

Police arrested the building’s security guard who denied allowing MS to run away, saying MS had fled when he opened the door. The security guard was asked to trap MS by calling him and telling that the victim would return his bag if he gave the passport back to her.

Police arrested MS, 35-year-old Syrian salesman, during the handing over. MS admitted to working as a pimp and also confessed to forging a photocopy of the visa to be used by ‘K” who is wanted by the police.

Police then arrested AB, 26, the new Moroccan woman who denied working in prostitution. However, Police submitted to the Court camera footage of different hotels where she offered sex to customers.

The Court is expected to give its verdict on July 14.
