Pay the mafia Dh15 million or else….

An Indian businessman allegedly threatened another compatriot businessman that he would be killed if he did not pay Dh15 million to mafia man ‘Sorani’, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

ATM, 52, is also accused of attempting to trying to force BSS to pay the amount but was arrested after police intervened.

The 40-year-old victim BSS testified that the accused came to his house claiming interest in buying properties. When he entered the house, he admitted he had not come for buying properties but to pass BSS a message from mafia man AB. The message was to pay mafia man ‘Sorani’ Dh15 million or risk having his throat cut.

 “He repeated his threat several times and warned me of the danger of the mafia if I did not obey their orders,” BSS testified.

Sergeant Rashid Omar testified that he attended two meetings between the accused and the victim and that he heard the threats and talk about danger from mafia man AB and his gang.

The sergeant testified that the accused had said he was proud to belong to the mafia. The victim presented a cheque for Dh500,000 but the accused sought Dh2 million.

Witness AMT, 48, American businessman, testified that he also attended two meetings with the accused and the latter had asked him to pay Dh15 million to the so-called Sorani and warned him of the danger of the mafia.

The court will reconvene on December 5.
