Pharmacist gets life term for selling banned drug

A pharmacist received life term and was also ordered to pay a fine of Dh50,000 by the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance for selling 80 tablets that contained the banned drug ‘Prazolam’.

According to the records, Dubai Police received a tip off about SMA, 29, Indian, selling drugs without medical prescription.

A police informer agreed with the accused to buy 80 tablets for Dh500. The handing over of the drug was agreed to take place in the pharmacy, where the accused worked, at 11.15pm on April 12. The pharmacy was located at an Eppco station on Emirates Road, the records said.

Police formed a squad and arrested the accused red handed and confiscated the Dh500 currency note belonging  to the police, testified Lieutenant Khalid Mousa.

The court also ordered SMA to be deported after serving the jail term.
