Police patrol foils attempt to steal 170kg of copper
A police patrol foiled an attempt by two workers to steal 170kg of copper worth Dh16,000, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
Corporal Sultan bin Hilal, 38, testified that he became suspicious when a worker tried to hide when a police patrol was passing by a store in Al Rumool area at around 5.15pm on April 6.
Sultan, who was accompanied with his colleague Ali Abbas, stopped and stepped towards the store. “The door was open and a large number of sacks were placed at the door. The sacks contained copper sheets. Asking the worker in the store about the sacks, he confessed that he and another colleague, who is in store No. 3, were moving the copper to store No. 6 to sell them as scrap to a Pakistani. We went to store No. 3 and arrested the other worker who confessed to participating in stealing the copper sheets,” he testified.
The company’s manager, ANG, 48, UK citizen, was immediately informed by the police about the theft attempt.
The court adjourned the case to June 11 for verdict.
