Police seize 4 million Tramadol tablets

More than 48 tonnes of narcotic powder used to make Tramadol and 4 million Tramadol pills were seized by the anti-drug department of Sharjah Police during a surprise raid. It was a joint operation with the Ministry of Interior.

The drugs were smuggled into the UAE by the sea. Ten people including narcotics dealers and vessel crew members were among those who were arrested by Dubai Police, reports Al Khaleej.

Earlier, Sharjah Police had acted on an anonymous tip-off that a sea vessel 'Tawfiq' was loaded with tonnes of Tramadol pills. It was heading towards Sharjah Creek and as per the information, the police found the smuggled drugs hidden at the bottom of the vessel.

The boat had started its journey in a south-east Asian country.

One of the drug dealers was arrested shortly after he arrived at the Dubai International Airport.
