A Kenyan porter was caught on camera when he opened passengers’ luggage to steal, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

FKB, 22, a porter at Dnata’s Transguard arm, is accused of attempting to steal from passengers’ luggage several times.

Sergeant Mohammed Salem who works at the Field Control Section of the Airport Security Department, testified that he had received a tip-off that FKB, who worked in the luggage loading and unloading area,  opens passenger bags and cargo boxes for stealing.

The accused was recorded  on film while opening and searching passenger luggage more than once.

When confronted, FKB confessed to trying to steal from passengers’ luggage 11 times but he did not find anything valuable.

He said he once found 2,000 Yemeni riyals but he did not take it because he was afraid of going to a money changer.

At another time, he found electronic products but he did not steal them as he was afraid that he might be caught at the checkout point when he left after work.

The prosecution submitted to the court a CD that included the camera recording.

The court adjourned the case for verdict until September 23.
