A pregnant woman posed as her sister who has a file in Latifa Hospital to deliver her baby, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The Comoros housewife headed to Latifa hospital as she was in labour.

She approached a nurse at the emergency section and posed her sister MI. When asked to hand over her health card, the accused claimed that she did not have it.

She also told the nurse who took for her a medical check, that she had no one to accompany her. The nurse did not find MI’s medical file in the electronic system.

As the staff were confused about the situation, the accused told the nurse that she used to visit a certain doctor in the hospital to check her pregnancy and gave her the doctor’s name.

The clerk repeated corroborative the nurse's testimony and said that the woman had come to the emergency section and looked like she was in labour.

"The woman gave me her name as was mentioned in the nurse’s registration form. However, she failed to present the health or ID cards. I asked her about her mobile number to check in the system as searching by names I did not find the file. The mobile number helped to find the file. But the picture in the system was not clear so I could not compare the patient's face with the picture,” said the clerk who opened an emergency file for the woman, based on the mobile number.

The mobile number was registered in her sister MI's name.

KI is accused of using false identity to secure an emergency admission to Latifa hospital by posing as her sister who had a file in the same hospital.

It is not clear how the hospital found out the truth.

The accused, who has been detained, appeared in court with her baby in her arms. She admitted to the crime and asked the jury not to punish her.

The court agreed to her request against handing over her passport and decided to announce sentence on February 10.
