The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced a public relation officer to six months in jail for forging 51 invoices of DP World and using them to steal Dh45,290.

AR, 47, Indian, was ordered to be deported after serving his jail term.

According to the records, in May, the company’s finance department found the money missing. Investigations revealed that that the company’s PRO had forged invoices of DP World.

“The accused was assigned to clear cargo from Jebel Ali Port. The company kept in his custody some money to pay for the clearance fees. After that, he used to submit the invoices of DP World. The company suspected embezzlement. Checking the authenticity of the invoices submitted by AR with DP World, we found out that there were differences between the actual paid amounts and the invoices that the PRO had submitted to the company.

“He used to submit to the company invoices with amounts higher than that of DP World that the PRO had paid. He embezzled the difference between the genuine invoices and those that he had forged,” the company’s financial manager told investigators.

The company reported the crime to the police. Police confiscated a forged seal of DP World and a flash memory where the accused saved the forged invoices.

DP World also reported that the invoices that the company suspected were forged. The accused admitted to the crime.
