A public relation office allegedly forged a photocopy of a traffic fine document and changed the total of fines to Dh8,500 from Dh3,500, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

MM, 30, denied fraud and claimed he did that to discipline the driver and ensure that he does not commit driving offences in future.

TG, 32, Indian manager, told investigators that the company’s PRO asked for Dh8,500 to pay for traffic fines of one of the company’s cars.

“I handed him over the amount. On January 10, 2014, he came to me and handed me a receipt of paying Dh6,600. The documents were forwarded to my senior who ordered that the amount should be deducted from the driver’s salary. The driver asked for copies of the traffic tickets to check them with the traffic department. The driver found out that one of them was forged,” testified TG.

The driver ST, 34, Indian, found out that his actual traffic fines was Dh600. Other Dh2,900 impoundment  change was also included in the document.

“I presented the two traffic fine documents given by the company to the police officer and the latter found out that one of them was forged. The forged documents were seized by the department and the PRO was questioned,” said the driver.

When the PRO was questioned, he admitted to increasing the fine figure. He claimed he did it as a disciplinary nary action against the driver and to make him more careful while driving in future.

The court will reconvene on June 8.
