A Comoros national got into the car of a man after he stopped it in front of a restaurant on Al Rigga Street, shouted at him and robbed him of his wallet and mobile phone before forcing him to withdraw Dh10,000 from his bank account, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On August 2, at around 1.30am, HA, 30, Indian salesman, had stopped in his car in front of Kentucky restaurant in Al Rigga area.

“Suddenly, a man opened the right door and sat in the car. He then started shouting and beating me in the face, asking me not to scream or talk. He snatched my wallet and mobile phone. He opened the wallet and did not find money but found my ATM card. He asked me to go to a nearest ATM and withdraw what was in the account.

“I got very scared of him, so I drove to the nearest ATM and withdrew Dh10,000 and gave the money to him. He took it and ran away,” said the victim.

Police investigated the complaint and arrested AM, 27, Comoros national, who had a similar criminal record.

AM admitted to the robbery but claimed that he had taken Dh8,700 only from the victim.

The court will reconvene on February 11.
