Salesman accused of groping child in mall

A Bangladeshi salesman allegedly groped a six-year-old Chinese girl in the Dragon Mall and claimed that he was just straightening out her dress.

The girl was going with her mother to her father’s shop in the mall. She went to play with other children and came back running to tell her mother: “There is a wicked man”.

“I asked her what she meant,” said the mother. The little girl said a man in a shop had groped her private parts. When the mother asked the girl again, she got the same reply.

The mother accompanied her daughter to the shop she was pointing at and MI, the 42-year-old salesman, saw them, he appeared confused, the mother testified.

When confronted, the salesman claimed that he had only put the girl’s underwear into her trousers. The mother lodged a complaint with the police. MI denied the accusation and said that as he lifted the girl up, her underwear came out and he had only put it back into her trousers.

The mother told the police that the accused not only put his hand into her underwear, he groped her private parts and also asked the girl to take off her trousers but she refused and ran away.

The salesman was referred to the Court on the charge of molestation. The Court will reconvene on October 20.
