Two jobless men who allegedly sneaked into a money exchange from the bathroom ventilation window, could not break the safe as their electrical saw got damaged, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

IAN, 37, Iranian, and JQY, 30, Iraqi, are accused of attempt at theft and damaging other people’s property.

JSS, 57, Indian manager, testified that on October 20, 2008, as he entered the company’s premises he saw that an electrical saw and other tools had been left there. He also found out that thieves had entered through the ventilator of the bathroom, broke into the office and seem to have tried to break the safe but did not succeed.

A mask been left by the thieves in the shop had DNA that matched that of IAN.

Captain Mohammed Jarwan testified that the two had been arrested in a number of cases of theft committed in the same manner.

IAN confessed to the accusation and said JQY had taught him and encouraged him to break into shops.

The accused confessed that they brought the tools and used them for sneaking into the shop and breaking the safe but had failed as the electrical saw got damaged and they left everything behind in the shop.

The court will reconvene on September 23.
