Scaffolding stealer gets 3 months in prison

Published

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced a Bangladeshi guard, who attempted to steal scaffolding with the help of others, to three months in prison.

According to the records, on August 21 at around 5.30pm, two drivers, who were assigned by their employer to unload scaffolding and steel bars at Al Khawaneej, were on their way to company's site when they noticed two people loading steel bars in a pickup at the construction site they were heading for. Coming closer, they found out that the two were loading scaffolding that had been cut into pieces.

“We caught hold of the two before they could run away and called our senior AA and informed him of the incident. The officer asked us to keep the thieves confined until he (an Egyptian security officer) arrived at the scene,” said AK, Pakistani driver.

AA rushed to the site and saw that the company’s steel scaffolding bars had been cut into pieces and loaded in a pickup. He called the police.

Police arrested MA, 24, Bangladeshi security guard and BM, 23, Pakistani driver.

MA admitted to stealing the scaffolding from the site while BM denied knowing that the scaffolding was stolen material.

The court ordered the driver to pay a fine of Dh1,000 for possessing stolen items.
