An Abu Dhabi court sentenced seven people to three years in prison after they were convicted of stealing Dh10 million from a bank by tampering with its Dh2 million draw for clients five times, the press reported on Sunday.

Two of the convicts work at  the bank and were found guilty of using their job to tamper with the bank’s periodic draw contest five times, allowing their five accomplices to win the money and share it between them.

Bank records presented to court showed that five draws organized by the bank within its “rich account” for customers, were won by the defendants for three successive years between 2013 and 2015 and that there was a scam in the selection of the winners.

“The court found that the two defendants who work at the bank had used their jobs giving them access to accounts and other client records to tamper with the draw result so their accomplices were selected for the prize,” Emarat Al Youm daily said.

The court sentenced the first expatriate defendant to three years in jail and ordered his deportation from the UAE.

The six others, including a woman, got the same sentence while the woman was also ordered deported after serving her jail term.
