The Sharjah police recently busted a passport forgery racket involving four Bangladeshi suspects.

The men have been convicted of forging passports and residence visas.

According to the police, the suspects were found with various tools used in the forging process, including formal stamps and documents of various government organisations.

The scam came to light when one of the suspects tried to leave the country from Sharjah airport.

The police official at the airport who was in charge of checking passports found out that the name of the passport holder did not match the passport he was holding.

On confronting the suspect he confessed that he was trying to leave the country using a forged passport made by someone else.

The police then arrested the suspect who forged the passport, which led to the busting of the gang.

The suspects told the police that they charged between Dh6,000 and Dh10,000 to forge passports.

The police official added that after completing all the legal procedures, the house of the forger was raided and large amounts of forged passports and residence visas were found at his home in addition to various other equipment used in the forging process.

The four suspects are currently detained and will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
