Sharjah cop risks life to rescue girl from rape

Man was about to rape girl when officer heard her screams

A police officer in Sharjah risked his life to save a nine-year-old girl from a man who was about to rape her in a deserted house after snatching her just in front of her home. Four hours later, police said they caught the man who they described as a “barbarous criminal.”

The unnamed man had taken the girl to an abandoned house but apparently had not realized a police officer lives nearby, Emarat Alyoum daily said.

"He tried to rape the girl but she started to scream…the police officer heard her and rushed to that house to rescue the girl,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily said, quoting police officials as saying.

It said the man then bundled the girl into the car again and tried to take her to another place after seeing the police officer, Major Hamad Al Riyami.

As Major Hamad tried to block the car way, causing confusion to the driver, the girl used the opportunity and jumped out of the vehicle.

“The driver then reversed back, trying to kill Major Hamad, who managed to jump away and evade the hit,” the paper said.

It quoted Sharjah police commander Brigadier Abdullah Al Dakhan as saying police seized the would be rapist four hours later. He described the man as a “barbarous criminal” who poses a real threat to the society.

The paper quoted him as saying the defendant confessed to the crime and later led the police to where he dumped the girl’s school bag.

"The police officer risked his life to save the child from the human wolf as that man managed to get into his car and tried to knock the police officer over.”

The girl had just stepped of her school bus and headed home when that man stopped his car and asked her to guide him to a school in the area.

"She pointed to the school but he told her he will not be able to find and asked her to get in the car to show him the school….he then took her straight to that deserted house,” the paper said, adding that more details about the incident would be announced by police later.

Thanks to this policeman that he was alert and realized this and also brave. But also a lesson for parents to teach their children to not get in cars with strangers and not to trust any stranger.

Really shocking and worrisome. I am really worried for my daughters! Befitting punishment must be given to these criminals. Only relief is that there are brave policemen out there who acts timely.

I don't think policemen expect any reward for what they do...they simply believe they are performing their duty. but big applause for Major Hamad.

This is shocking, but thanks for the brave Major Hamad... he deserves to be promoted while criminals like those must be punished by death and not less than that.

I request all the parents and also whoever can advise children to be aware of such situations and how to escape from danger, i.e., remote areas, inside the elevator etc. Also, children need special training in schools to protect themselves from such wild human beings. May Allah save all the children in the world.
