Thieves smashed through the glass doors of a supermarket in Sharjah and allegedly made away with cash and cards worth Dh50,000 in the early hours of Saturday.

CCTV footages from the outlet show a gang of four members looting the safe. Police and forensic experts are studying the supermarket located near Rolla Square.

The shop, which was closed around 1.30am on Saturday morning, was broken into around 3.30 am and the thieves left the place within four minutes.

While three men are seen entering the shop by breaking the rear glass door and carrying the safe containing cash, one person was keeping vigil outside.

The three men carried the safe comprising an alleged Dh40,000 to their vehicle and are seen returning to collect coins worth Dh2,500 and phone cards worth another Dh2,500.

A vegetable vendor who happened to arrive at the supermarket at about 5.30am was the first to have noticed the burglary. He instantly informed the police.

The supermarket is owned by an Indian businessman from Kerala.

Most supermarkets have no security guards and, therefore, are easy targets for robbers.
