Two Pakistani jobless men befriended an Eppco employee with the intention of cheating him. They allegedly lured him with a promise of leasing out a shop to him and robbed his wallet.

They allegedly drove him to an isolated area, and made away with his belongings and cash. One of them even managed to flee the country via Oman border, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The Sri Lankan supervisor at Eppco station in Al Aweer testified in court that an Emirati, AHB, 30, met him at his workplace during Iftar this Ramadan. “He introduced himself as Ismaeel. After a small chat over Iftar, he offered to drop me home. On our way, he spoke about being interested in leasing one of his shops to me in Al Rashidiya area.”

The following day, according to the victim, AHB arrived at his station at about 8pm along with a friend and requested him to accompany them. “They said they were taking me to show me the shop they would lease out to me. However, instead of heading towards Rashidiyah, Ismaeel drove to an isolated place and asked me to get off. When I refused, he pulled me by the collar and stood me out. They took my two mobile phones, Dh1,800 cash, ID card and bank cards.”

Police arrested AHB after the victim identified his picture. BY then, his accomplice in the alleged crime had fled the country via Oman, said police.

The court will issue its verdict on December 30.
