A Pakistani system analyst allegedly groped the lower back of a 10-year-old girl in a supermarket, exploiting the fact that she was standing away from her mother, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim’s mother, SY, 36, Emirati, told police that at around 6pm on Friday December 6, she accompanied her two daughters and the maid to Ibn Battuta Mall.

“In the supermarket, I left my two daughters near the trolley not very far away from the garments section to which I headed with the maid. After a few minutes, I heard my daughter Sara laughing loudly. I rushed to my daughters and asked Sara why she was laughing. She told me that a man had groped her sister’s lower back thrice. She also told me that he was wearing an orange shirt.

“A supermarket staffer told me that he saw the accused touching my daughter and another girl and had already informed the security. The security staff caught the groper and I reported the incident to the police,” testified the mother.

RR, 23, Indian, security guard, who was not on duty was in the supermarket and saw the accused groping the girl.

“While I was shopping, I noticed a man waving to two girls standing near a trolley and walking towards them. I stopped to watch him and I saw him groping one of them and left. I informed the security and followed the accused. While he was running away, he groped an Indian girl about 13 years old,” testified RR.

The victim told investigators that a man had groped her and when he did it thrice, her sister laughed out loudly.

Police arrested MF, 30, Pakistani, and the victim recognised him when shown to her via identification parade.

The court will reconvene on June 16.
