'Smart' woman escapes rape by flight-steward

A Filipina escaped from her flight steward friend who attempted to rape her in his flat by pretending that she wanted go up to her flat to 'prepare' herself, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The woman, JV, 28, testified that the accused MF asked her to accompany him to his flat on October 4, 2012 at around 4pm to have alcohol.

“I agreed and we went together and we had vodka. After that he tried to hug and kiss me. I tried to prevent him but he did not listen and continued what he was doing and turned aggressive.

“He carried me to his bed by force and took off his shorts. He tried to have sex with me several times while I was resisting him and and screaming.

“I kicked him in his belly. He put a pillow on my face to force me to stop shouting. He resumed his attempt to rape me. I told him that I wanted to go up to my flat to prepare myself and will come back to him. He agreed and let me go,” she testified.

The victim told three of her friends and then informed the police.

RKK, 30, Filipino, testified that he got a number of phone calls from the victim before he could answer her.

“She told me that JV had attempted to rape her,” he testified.

Policemen rushed to the airline’s accommodation at Al Quoz and arrested MH, 27, Indonesian, who was in custody of the building’s security men. The victim was also present and she narrated the rape attempt, testified police officer Mohammed Ateeq.

The accused admitted that he exploited the woman’s presence in his flat and attempted to have forcible sex with her and that she was screaming and resisting him.

Criminal evidence reported that the accused’s DNA matched a sample taken from the victim’s body.

The Prosecution accused MH of attempt to rape which he denied before the Court.

The Court will reconvene on April 9.
