Two Ethiopians have been accused of stealing Dh50000 from a pedestrian before running away, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On March 3 at around 11 am, 25-year-old ZQ, clerk was asked to deposit Dh139000 in the bank.

Testifying before the prosecutor the victim said, "I put Dh89000 in the right pocket of my trouser and the remaining Dh50000 in the other pocket.

"I took Dh50000 from Dh89000 and deposited it through ATM. I walked towards the bank on Bani Yas Square to deposit the rest of the amount."

All of a sudden someone tried to knock him down. But ZQ held his attackers arm and resisted the fall. He then felt someone pulling out the money from his pocket. Before he could realise what was happening the two assailants ran away.

The victim could not catch any of the attackers.

He reported the incident to the police who was already investigating crimes executed in similar nature.

Police intensified its investigation in the area and arrested jobless DA, 37, and BH, 28, who was a visitor.

The victim recognised the accused during the identification parade.

The court will reconvene on August 28.
