'Speaking to walls' exposes drug user

When an Emirati woman once found her son speaking to the walls at their home in Dubai, she thought he was just killing time.

But, it happened again and again and it was not just the walls, but he was speaking to himself and to other personal items. Only then did she get alarmed.

Since she apparently had no idea about the effects of drugs, she thought her son was gripped by jinn (spirits).

“She took him to a Muslim Sheikh for treatment but her son later admitted to her that he was taking drugs. She then took him to the police for treatment and rehabilitation,” said Jumma Al Shamsi, Director of the Awareness section at the Counter-drugs General Department in Dubai.

“There is a need to educate parents about the ways to know whether their sons are drug addicts or not,” she said.
