Speed camera arsonist nabbed in RAK

Ras Al Khaimah police arrested an Emirati man who set a speed camera on fire to retaliate for his payment of large fines because of speeding. 

Police said the man, identified as AS, was seized nearly three months after he burned the traffic camera on Ghalila road in the northern city. 

“After investigation and a search of nearly three months, we succeeded in arresting the man who burned and damaged the speed camera on Ghalila road,” said Lt Colonel Adnan Al Zaabi, head of the preventive security in RAK. 

“He confessed to his crime and said he had done so because he had to pay part of heavy fines that have accumulated on him because of speeding.” 

Zaabi said the man told police that he had poured petrol on the camera, set it ablaze and fled the scene.
