An Indian labourer working in Sharjah was found with his wrists slit at his accommodation in the emirate.

While the official version here at the company he used to work for is suicide, family sources have not ruled out foul play.

According to family sources who spoke to Emirates 24|7, the man, identified as Shibu Mathew (30), was found by his friends who went to his apartment to search for him after he had not reported for work.

Shibu was working for a manufacturer of refrigerators and official sources at the Sharjah company said he had been employed with them for more than 10 years.

“He was a foreman with us. He committed suicide and we have a medical report to confirm it. His dead body has already been repatriated,” said a company source.

The company source said he committed suicide due to personal reasons and there was no job-related issues.

Shibu’s family in Kerala has approached Indian authorities seeking more details about his death as they fear foul play.

A letter has been sent to the Indian Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs.

The number of Indians committing suicide in the UAE has been on the rise this year, with several such cases being reported across the UAE.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE and other community associations are engaged in various awareness campaigns to staunch the deaths.
