An American manager allegedly possessed for personal consumption drugs stuffed in sweets, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Police received a tip off that JD, 37, possesses and uses drugs.

On July 26, anti-narcotics officers spotted JD sitting in a coffee shop in the Meadows and arrested him.

Searching him and his car, officers did not find any banned things. He was taken to his house in the Springs where he was asked if he possesses drugs.

JD personally went to the refrigerator and brought some colourful sweets in which he said hashish was stuffed.

He admitted that he had brought the narcotic from the US and that he had used part of it.

Laboratory test proved that the sweets contained hashish.

He was detained after a urine test proved positive to hashish, opium and tramadol.

In the court, JD denied possessing and taking drugs, telling judges that he did not know that the 10 pieces of sweets confiscated from his house were stuffed with hashish.

The court will reconvene on December 27.
