Sword attack partly disables Emirati's left hand

An Emirati student allegedly attacked a compatriot with a sword and caused him 15 per cent permanent disability, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The 45-year-old victim, SA, testified that on May 17 last year, while he was in front of a house in Qussais area with YA, a 21-year-old student, the accused approached them holding a sword in his hand.

“He tried to attack YA with the sword but the latter escaped into the house. But he turned to me and hit my left hand with the sword,” testified the victim.

YA repeated the same testimony.

The medical report said the victim had suffered 15 per cent permanent disability of his left hand.

The accused admitted to his crime. Court records did not mention the reason for the attack.

The Court will reconvene on December 18.
