A Pakistani businessman allegedly groped a British teacher in the lift of her building after assaulting her, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On May 31, FO, 23, returned home from a friend’s birthday party at around 2.15am.

“The taxi stopped about 10 metres away from the building’s entrance. As I entered the building, I noticed a man waiting at the lift. After I climbed the few stairs at the entrance, the lift arrived and the man opened the door and waited for me.

“I got into the lift and then he entered it behind me. He pressed the 27th floor and I pressed the 26th floor button. Then we stood facing one another. As the door closed, the man tried to stop it, so I tried to press the button once again. As I was doing so, he held my left hand and punched me in the face. He pushed me back into the lift and inserted his hand in my shirt and groped my breast while he was holding my neck with his other hand,” the teacher told investigators.

The teacher resisted him and pushed him away from her and pressed on the button for the 17th floor.

“I tried to get out when the lift reached the 17th floor but he tried to prevent me by pulling my hair.  I fell on the floor and shouted and screamed for help. He got scared and let me go. A family which was in the floor’s corridor rushed to me and they called the police,” the victim told investigators.

The teacher was rushed to the hospital which reported injuries in the head and scratches on the neck and breast.

Police investigated the complaint and arrested HS, 28, businessman, who used to enter the building to visit a compatriot woman.

The victim recognised the accused when shown to her via identification parade.

The accused denied the accusation and the court will reconvene on January 4.
