A 23-year-old Iranian mechanic (YJ) allegedly hid a sack of 3,099 Tramadol tablets among trees for sale, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

According to the records, police received a tip off about YJ possessing, taking and promoting Tramadol.

“After taking the necessary permission from the Prosecution, we observed the suspect at his accommodation in Satwa. The suspect was seen getting out of his house holding a sack in his hand and after walking about five metres from his house, he put the sack between trees near a neighbour’s house,” Captain Ali Abbas told investigators.

Policemen waited for about five minutes before raiding the house. Police did not find any drugs in YJ’s house.

“We took him where he hid the sack. But YJ denied any link to it,” testified the officer.

His colleague repeated a similar testimony.

YJ was arrested on the charge of possessing 3,099 Tramadol tablets for promotional purpose.

YJ denied the accusation when he appeared before the court and the defence lawyer asked for hearing affirmative witnesses.

The court will reconvene on July 2.
