A sales manager, with a worker’s help, allegedly offered a policeman a bribe of Dh5,000 to set free the former’s brother from detention , the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

AFK, 33, Indian, is accused of offering First Corporal Kamal Ali Dh5,000 against releasing his brother from detention. ABS, 41, Indian, is accused of criminal complicity.

First Corporal Mohammed Saeed said that on September 11 while he was on duty at Naif Police Station, he received a call from ABS who asked him to meet him at the reception of the station.

“I went to meet him. He told me that AFK’s brother is in detention and AFK is offering Dh5,000 to set his brother free. I asked him for his identification as well as of the detained person. He gave me AFK’s and his brother’s identification. I notified my senior who asked me to carry on with the two to arrest them red handed,” he testified.

The policeman testified that he was paid Dh5,000 along with a photocopy of AFK’s passport against releasing AFK’s brother who was detained in Naif Police Station. The handing over of the bribe was in the presence of First Corporal Mohammed Saeed.

AFK confessed to the charges and said he had paid ABS Dh1,000 for helping him to contact police officers to set his brother free. ABS told AFK that First Corporal Mohammed Saeed can release his brother against money, Lieutenant Khalid Khalifa testified.
