An Abu Dhabi court sentenced an Arab man to two months in prison and ordered him to pay Dh50,000 diya (blood money) to the family of another skier who was killed in an accident caused by the defendant, a newspaper reported on Sunday.
The victim’s mother had demanded Dh1 million damages on the grounds her son was the sole supporter of the family, Al Khaleej said.
But the court found the defendant guilty of negligence by causing the accident between the two jet skier off Abu Dhabi city and set damages at Dh50,000, it said.
“The court also sentenced the defendant for two months in jail to be suspended for three years,” the paper added.
