UAE student on trial for possessing stolen things

An Emirati student is being prosecuted for possessing a handbag and a mobile phone that belonged to a woman who had been attacked and robbed in the street, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

According to the records, RK, 34, Russian, was walking home along Riqqa Street on December 10, 2013 at around 11.30pm when a man attacked her and snatched her hand bag.

“While I was walking, a man passed by me and snatched my bag. In the first attempt, I resisted him and held my bag strongly. But he tried again and succeeded in snatching the bag and running away. My bag contained my Galaxy Note 2 mobile phone, two bank cards and Dh50 and some other things,” the woman testified.

Police arrested the attacker RK who was recognised by the victim when shown to her via identification parade. Later, police identified and arrested AH who possessed the stolen bag AH.

Police confiscated from his house a number of stolen things including the victim’s handbag and mobile phone.

The Court will give its verdict on March 30.
