Victim’s dad demands death of Emirati killer

An Emirati man could be executed for murdering a Yemeni during a fight in Fujeirah after the victim’s father refused to accept diya (blood money) and insisted on the defendant’s death, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The unidentified Emirati was arrested after stabbing the Yemeni man in various parts of his body during a fight at a wedding in Fujeirah last year.

A criminal court in the eastern emirate had sentenced the defendant to death after he was convicted of premeditated murder, prompting him to appeal.

During hearings at the appeals court on Monday, the judge asked the victim’s father if he still refuses to pardon his son’s killer.

“I will never pardon him….he (killer) did not give us any chance to accept diya because it was not an accidental killing,” the father said.

“It was a premeditated murder.….he stabbed my son without mercy many times in various parts of his body…it was not just one or two but many stabs, which show an intent to kill…for this reason, there is no way I will pardon him.”

The semi official daily Alittihad said judge Abdullah al Salami adjourned hearings to April 23 after hearing the father’s testimony.
