Visitor accused of raping woman in his house

A 25-year-old Syrian visitor allegedly raped a Maldivian, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The victim OB, 30, saleswoman, testified that on December 15 she went to a hotel at Dubai Marina to spend time at a night club where she met the accused. At around 3am, she left the hotel and took a taxi. Suddenly, the accused opened the door of the taxi and sat next to her. He told her that his house is on her way.

“On our way, he offered to accompany me to my house. Then he said that he wanted to take something from his house. We went up to his house and the people who were in the hall playing cards, went to another room. I was sitting on a sofa.  Suddenly, he pushed me back and, despite my screaming and shouting, forcibly undressed me and had sex me .After he finished he apologised for what he had done and offered money but I refused and called the police,” she testified.

At around 6am, police arrested the accused who was sleeping. He claimed that he had consensual sex and that she had scratched his back with her nails. His roommates told police that they both were drunk and that he tried to pull her into a room several times. She had resisted him in the beginning but he succeeded in the end.

Forensic reported that the woman had been subjected to forcible sex and that she had bruises on her wrist and arm. Sperms of the accused were found in the victim’s body and on the sofa cover.

The court will reconvene on July 9.
