Visitor tried to smuggle 1.78kg of cocaine

MJH, a 38-year-old American tourist, allegedly possessed and attempted to smuggle 1.78kg of cocaine in his suitcase, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

An airport inspector noticed the unusual thickness of the suitcase of the passenger who arrived on June 30, so he informed his senior.

Searching the suitcase, the inspector found cocaine hidden in the bottom of the suitcase inside a bag  covered with a plastic sheet. The bag contained 1.788kg of the drug.

The accused confessed that he bought the drugs from Columbia from where he travelled to Brazil then to Dubai and was intending to proceed to Holland.

He confessed before the prosecution that he was asked by someone to deliver the cocaine to a person in Holland against 7,500 euros.

The court adjourned the case for verdict on September 30.
